Application Instructions for ORACAL 651 Outdoor Adhesive Vinyl on Automobiles
Materials Needed:
- ORACAL 651 Vinyl Decal
- Transfer tape (already applied to the decal)
- Squeegee or credit card
- Cleaning cloth
- Rubbing alcohol or mild soap and water
- Masking tape (optional)
- Measuring tape (optional)
Step-by-Step Instructions:
-
Clean the Surface:
- Thoroughly clean the area where you’ll apply the decal using rubbing alcohol or a mixture of mild soap and water. Ensure the surface is free from dust, dirt, and grease. Allow it to dry completely before proceeding.
-
Position the Decal:
- Carefully position the decal on the vehicle to find the perfect placement. You can use masking tape to hold it in place while you measure and adjust.
-
Secure the Decal:
- Once you’re satisfied with the placement, secure the top edge of the decal with masking tape. This will act as a hinge, allowing you to lift the decal without losing its position.
-
Peel Off the Backing Paper:
- Slowly peel the backing paper away from the transfer tape and vinyl decal, starting from the top. Be careful not to let the sticky side of the decal touch the vehicle until you’re ready to apply.
-
Apply the Decal:
- Gently lay the decal onto the vehicle, starting from the top and working your way down. Use a squeegee or credit card to press the decal onto the surface, working from the center outward to remove any air bubbles.
-
Smooth the Decal:
- Once the entire decal is applied, go over it again with the squeegee to ensure it’s firmly attached. Pay special attention to the edges.
-
Remove the Transfer Tape:
- Carefully peel away the transfer tape, starting at one corner and pulling it back slowly at a 45-degree angle. The vinyl decal should stay adhered to the vehicle’s surface.
-
Final Touches:
- If any air bubbles remain, use the squeegee to gently push them toward the edges or carefully pop them with a pin and smooth out the vinyl.
Curing Time:
- Allow the decal to set and cure for at least 24 hours before washing the vehicle or exposing it to extreme weather conditions.
Maintenance Tips:
- Hand washing is recommended to extend the life of your decal. Avoid using high-pressure washers directly on the decal.
